ReplyDeletei was hoping for eric salamat and paul lee to go on full marbury-iverson mode in the 4th quarter ala NBA all-star 2001. but yeah, no such luck.
haha! thanks for the enlightenment on the per-40 minute numbers. didn't really look into that any more. i guess, when they say "all-star" i just think a guy that is a playmaker (from perimeter or post), and having seen Kish Co since high school, he's never been that kind of player.
ReplyDeleteit was definitely a bad effort, if any effort at all. the only person i saw giving it some push was rr garcia. good for feu fans, bad for eveyrbody else because that guy can play.
its interesting to talk about what an all-star should be. obviously, bringas or webb would be a bigger draw than kish co. but they aren't very efficient players. and neither were the much-maligned vets mangahas and barua. did anybody from DLSU really deserve to be called an all-star this year? or at least deserve it over kish, who was very efficient when he was out on the floor?
ReplyDeletetrue. this would be similar to a shane battier vs tracy mcgrady comparison wherein the former is extremely effcient and the latter having the superstar power.
ReplyDeletei guess that since the all-star game is for entertainment, then naturally, i would get a healthy t-mac for the team over battier. i think the truly effective players are rewarded with more substantial awards at the end of the year (mythical, all-defensive teams).
kish co falls into a different trap. unfortunately, i think his performances aren't as game-changing as battier since he isn't the catalyst for his team's performance in the way battier does. most of the time, he's the finisher of the play created by his teammates. of course, there is no assist if no shot is made, but he rarely initiates the action on-court. this is why i think he still falls short of being an all-star.
as for anybody in DLSU deserving of being an all-star, i think bringas and webb deserved it this year. even with their inconsistencies, i think opposing teams were wary of what they were capable of and drew up plans against them. whereas kish co would fall under the category "mas gusto na nating siya tatalo sa atin."
